IMDB: "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" |
I don't know why, but I never felt the need to watch these movies. But when "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" had it's premiere, I felt like I had to see it to get some context. Why did I wait? This movie was awesome!
We meet Will (James Franco) at his job as a "tester" of medicine. He's researching for a cure for Alzheimers (and his dad, played by John Lithgow, has Alzheimers) so he's testing on chimpances first. Blue Eyes is one of the apes and when an important meeting takes place, Blue Eyes is misunderstood and killed. But it wasn't the drugs doing all that, it was mother instinct that kicked in. Will takes Caesar (Andy Serkis) into his home and grows a father/son relationship, sort of (it's the cutest thing!). And now we get to see Caesar grow up and be the ape that he is. But.. bad things happen, and Caesar is being taken away from Will and is now living among the other apes in a facility where Draco.. I mean Dodge (Tom Felton) is being the idiot he is. And that ain't right in Caesars book! He takes matters into his own hands!
Caesar (Serkis).. Wow..! |
Why do you always have to be a jerk, Tom? Looking good doing it though.. |
* 7/10 *
There's also a lot more where those came from:
The originals: "Planet of the Apes", "Beneath the Planet of the Apes", "Escape from the Planet of the Apes", "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" and "Battle of the Planet of the Apes".
A remake by Tim Burton: "Planet of the Apes".
